Assessment Needs
for Departments, Colleges, and the University

Course-Based Assessment

Course-based assessment (CBA) can happen in a few ways, but all of the data are integrated into Tk20 for reporting at the program, department, college, and university level based on its need.

Course-based assessment can be performed with a direct integration between Tk20 & D2L, within Tk20 itself as an assignment or as an observation that is assessed by a faculty member without the need of a student to submit something for assessment purposes.

For effective implementation of Course-Based Assessment, the Tk20 administrator needs to collect information from the appointed individual regarding the assessment including
  1. what is being assessed (paper, exam, presentation, etc.)
  2. how it is being assessed (rubric)
  3. where it is being assessed (which course(s) and section(s))
  4. when it is being assessed (due date)
To add in this information gathering, this Google form should be completed to assist in this process.

For the Fall 2018 semester, please complete this by Friday, October 5, 2018.

Field Experience

The field experience module in Tk20 allows external constituents (cooperating teachers or principals in schools or field supervisors in social service agencies) to evaluate our students based on their accrediting body standards.  The field experience binder can include parts for the university supervisor (instructor of record), site supervisor (non-NEIU supervisor) and student complete evaluations about their experiences and competencies demonstrated in their field experience/internship.

Currently, this functionality is in use in the following areas:
  • School Leadership Program which leads to State of Illinois Principal Endorsement
  • Counselor Education Program (Clinical Mental Health, Family, Rehab or School)
  • Student Teaching programs (beginning Fall 2017)
  • Social Work (BSW & MSW)

Guides for completing the field experience process are updated each semester and should be available for Fall 2017 by September 1, 2018 and will be distributed by the department using this type of assessment.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact your specific department at NEIU.

University Assessment Reporting by Program

One of the major functions that Tk20 provides is way for the university's programs to complete their annual assessment report in a consistent format.   The university's assessment team consists of Blase Masini, Breckie Church, Nancy Wrinkle, Emily Booms & Kenny Beyer.  Any of these individuals can assist you in completing your annual report.

Currently, there is one template for the College of Arts and Sciences and there is a different template for the Goodwin College of Education.

The university assessment reporting includes course based assessment (typically completed using Tk20) along with the feedback loop.

You must be assigned privileges within Tk20 to complete these reports.
